HFIP GPC
We promise to support our clients with various organic/inorganic material R&Ds with utmost sincerity.
KOPTRI provides GPC (Gel Permeation Chromatography) service with a particular fluorinated solvent, HFIP (Hexafluoro-isopropanol).
In the past, the molecular weight measurement of high crystalline polymers that does not dissolve in typical THF or amide solvent is through high-temperature GPC that uses m-cresol. m-cresol is challenging to handle in typical labs since it is used in high-temperature GPC, and also followed by a strong odor and toxicity. However, HFIP allows these polymers to be measured with GPC at room temperature. Usually, engineering plastics such as PET, PBT, PNT, polyamides, and polyacetal are possible candidates for HFIP GPC. Also, biodegradable polymers that are used commonly in surgical suture such as PDO (Polydioxanone) can be measured with HFIP. The downside of HFIP solvent is that it is expensive, and it could damage GPC instrument, which it requires specially customized GPC instrument to use this solvent. Even with the drawbacks, HFIP GPC is more comfortable to handle than high-temperature GPC with m-cresol. If you need help with analysis, please send us a request by submitting ‘Application Form’ under ‘Contact Us’ tab, and supervising researcher will aid you with a punctual and meticulous reply.
